Convexity vs Fishbowl for distributors: forecast-based purchasing, done-for-you setup, QuickBooks and price. What a buyer who compared both told us.

Short answer: Fishbowl is a long-running inventory and manufacturing system best known for its QuickBooks integration. Convexity is inventory and purchasing software for distributors and brands that carry 500 or more SKUs and sell on several channels, and our team does the implementation for you. If you need QuickBooks Desktop sync and plan to run the system yourself, Fishbowl is a reasonable pick. If the hard part of your week is deciding what to buy across thousands of SKUs, Convexity is built for that.

Why a home-furnishings brand chose Convexity over Fishbowl

In October 2026 a made-to-order home-furnishings brand with about 4,000 fabric SKUs signed with us after also evaluating Fishbowl. Orders reach them through WooCommerce, showroom reps, EDI from department stores and plain email, and QuickBooks holds the books. Fabric on hand was worked out backwards from past sales, and 20 to 30% of their SKUs were regularly out of stock or late.

They told us Convexity cost more than Fishbowl. They chose it anyway, for four reasons:

  • The SKU-level inventory projections went further than what they saw from other vendors.

  • Every pillow, sofa and ottoman maps to the yardage of fabric it uses, so each sale draws down raw material automatically.

  • They work directly with our founders. One of them ran purchasing and inventory at Wayfair, a channel this brand sells through heavily.

  • We can adapt the workflow to how their factory runs, now and later, instead of the other way round.

Their onboarding starts in November 2026. We will publish measured results once there are results to measure.

When Fishbowl is the better choice

Choose Fishbowl if you run QuickBooks Desktop and want that sync out of the box, if you would rather configure and maintain the system with your own staff, or if production work orders are the center of your operation. Fishbowl has been doing QuickBooks-connected inventory for a long time, and that maturity counts.

When Convexity is the better choice

  • You carry 500 or more active SKUs and the real work is deciding what to reorder, from which supplier, and when.

  • Orders arrive from several places at once: Amazon, Walmart, TikTok Shop, Whatnot, BigCommerce or Shopify, plus EDI, sales reps and email.

  • You would rather hand over spreadsheets and exports and let someone else do the migration.

  • You want an AI assistant that works on your actual stock and purchase orders, inside permissions you control.

Can Convexity run alongside Fishbowl?

No. Convexity does not integrate with or operate on top of Fishbowl. It replaces the inventory, sales-order and purchasing work you run in Fishbowl today, and QuickBooks Online stays your accounting system.

How to test both in a demo

Bring the same material to both vendors and watch what each system does with it:

  • A real customer order that includes a SKU the system will not recognize.

  • A recent supplier purchase with a case-pack minimum and a lead time that slipped.

  • A partial receipt, followed by the invoice reaching QuickBooks.

  • The question: who did the data migration for your last three customers, and how long did it take?

Send us 12 months of sales and your current stock. On a call, we will walk you through which SKUs are overstocked and which are about to run out.
